I don’t play computer games as much as I used to and above that, I don’t seem to take so much fun out of big and complex games as before. So now I can say I really understand all the buzz around casual games and the important market it is. What I still hadn’t realized was how the market around games had evolved.
This post from Jeff Atwood lead me to the Steam store, a sort of iTunes for videogames. I already had been a couple of times there, but only now (with the whole Christmas sales) I realized the great collection they got. And at reasonable prices, since that was one of the biggest issues preventing people from buying more computer games. And not just big editors games, but also small, casual, and indie games. There were already several platforms for indie games, but I still hadn’t seen them in such variety and mixed up with all the other genres.
I just don’t like having to install their software to do some actions like playing demos, although the software must be useful for maintaining you steam games library. Maybe this is the time I’ll start buying computer games again, the Holiday’s Sale is tempting…
