Pedro Barata's SEO talk

I can just say it was an awesome weekend. The BarCampPortugal event is getting better every year. A great time to see some friends, make new ones and meet some that I only knew from their projects and blogs. Many presentations, since everyone was just encouraging friends to show/talk about something. And all the spare time between activities, the Halfbaked.com, the informal talks, helped creating a very good atmosphere for everyone.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to watch all the talks, since on the Sunday afternoon we had to speed up the event, having some presentations in different places at the same time, to make sure everyone had time to speak. I would like to make some some mentions to the presentations I found more interesting.

The presentations

Alcides Fonseca presented Ejaki, the project he’s been working on this summer. Ejaki is a web-based service for creating, cataloging, rating and sharing POIs, using a mobile application for PDAs with GPS and a web application for management and social features. You can find the presentation here.

The presentations post-its

Embrace the Flow was a talk by Pedro Custódio, based on a post he made some time ago, about some talks he had seen and his personal experience. It was about introducing the flow state, a state of mind and body where you are only focused on the objective you want to accomplish, in someone’s working habit. Read his post for more information, although the valuable discussion had during the talk isn’t reproducible.

Nuno Morgadinho gave an overview to Adobe’s Flex, something almost unknown to me before. It’s a framework for the development of RIAs in Flash. Nuno showed the possibilities of this technology, the IDE and some of the libraries available for 3D development and physics. You can download the Flex presentation here.

Finally, I would like to mention Fred Oliveira’s presentation and discussion about OpenID. He presented the technology capabilities, it’s benefits for the normal Internet user and also it’s problems, doing a demonstration for everyone. Fred encouraged to start adopting OpenID and developers to start implementing it in their applications, though we agreed that it’s still not matured enough for all kind of audiences.

Check out Alcides’ blog for more deep reviews of the event and the presentations, in Portuguese though.

I would like to thank the organization for making this event possible again and everyone attending for the great time. Hope to see you all again soon.
