DOPPLR is an online social platform, that keeps track of your and your friends trips. Basically, you just set your future destination and the period you’re staying there. Then all your fellow travelers can check your trips, as you can check theirs. And, the most useful feature for me, you can subscribe a specific place RSS or iCal to be notified when someone is coming to that place.
This is a very simple service and since it’s still an invite only beta, it doesn’t have many travelers near me, to get a bigger picture. But it can become quite interesting if this will turn out popular. It would be awesome to get notified every time friends come near Coimbra. Then I could just invite them to a bar or so. It would also be easier to see if anyone’s coming to the same event you are. The creators also came up with better ways for you to quickly gather up your contacts that are using DOPPLR. As you can see on the image, and on the announcement, you can just check your Gmail contacts or Twitter friends, or even a file with your XFN connections.
So, if you have an account and would like to keep up with my trips (although not many) drop here a line. If you don’t, I still have 7 invites to give away to anyone interested in trying DOPPLR.
