There are many ways to deliver information. News headlines are usually a kind of information that needs to be deliver in a quick and very noticeable way. You need to grab the viewers attention with a small group of words, so the means you use to deliver them matter. Now I’m going to show four different methods of delivering news headlines. (Thanks to information aesthetics for the last three.)
This is sort of my favorite one, so it comes in first. Newsmap is a dynamic flash page that uses the combination of different size fonts and strong colors to present news headlines from several countries. The news are fetched from Google News, the font size is set according the available space and the news importance and the background color is set according the news theme and the time ago since it was published.
And what about getting your news while gaming. In NewsBreaker, a block-breaker clone, you can find news headlines hidden inside blocks and once they’re released, you’ll have to catch them. Don’t know how effective can this be, since most of the times we’re not actually reading them but it’s something different at least.
From the Digg Labs we have Big Spy. It’s a continuous flow of article titles, as they are being digged by users. The more popular (more diggs) the story is, the bigger the font size, causing some bigger titles to push over the smaller ones.
As last example, I got a more artist way to present news headers. Using a live RSS feed from the web, the Decorative Newsfeeds present the viewers with text animations that can be monochromatic or multi-colored. It surely captures the attention, although the message may not be understood before the viewers start feeling dizzy.
