After trying out several alternative search engines I finally found one that I can call useful. Lijit engine system is centered on a specific user interests and sources. When you register, you’ll need to insert your username on several social websites like del.icio.us or digg. The engine will then use this information to adapt the search results to your world. Usually your own content will appear first on the results, followed by some of your most trusted sources, like your del.icio.us network. This kind of search works quite well when you search for subjects that are more close to you, while for generic searches non-vertical search engines will still give more relevant results.
Lijit also offers some more unique features like a search widget for you to put on your website, to enable visitors to search more about you and your network, like the one here on the left. You can also check the widget stats to see what others are curious about. It’s good to see that there is still space left for projects like this to appear, even behind the shadow of the big search leaders.
