Processing language

Processing letters

Processing is a open-source programming language that enables you to program images, animations and sound. With a C-like syntax, it can be used to create design prototypes, or simply test an idea, but it’s also a powerful tool for professional projects. The last version (1.0) it’s still in beta and it’s available for Windows, GNU/Linux and Mac. It comes with a simple and very usable environment. The result runs under the Java machine.

There are some really neat examples and projects based on this creative language, and even a section dedicated to the development for mobile platforms. A book was also released by the creators of the language.

Although there is little documentation yet, some very cool libraries can already be found, like MySQL, XML and OpenGL integration, which expands exponentially the possibilities of this language.

I still didn’t have time to really test it’s potential, but some of the projects really amazed me. If only the book was a bit cheaper. This way I have to consider if the investment is worth it. Happy coding…
